Sightings: 4 Chevy Volts in 2 minutes
I rarely see a Leaf, but I see the Volt around here increasingly often. Two days ago I saw four in a couple minutes traveling in the high occupancy lanes on the freeway. Each had that special green sticker on the bumper that allows a lone driver to use the HOV lane because of ultra-low emissions--in this case zero tailpipe emissions. Shows you what good public policy can do.
Also have seen two different Fisker Karmas rolling around here. Though that car certainly won't become "common place" in the way the Volt seems maybe it might. Honda sent me another solicitation for the Fit EV trial leasing program in SoCal that I applied for, and then withdrew from because the lease is just not worth the cool factor. My Civic is cheap and keeps on going like an energizer bunny! |
Just cant beatva civic that gives you 60mpg and no car payments...i also have seen a few volts but no leafs

FWIW (prolly nothing) but in NorCal I see FAR more Leafs than Volts.

I haven't seen any Leaf's on the road either, but I'm pushing for more older, used electric cars in my area, one other guy owns one like mine and my parents own/use a converted VW Golf.
A month or so back I checked on the number of Volt's sold, after seeing a hand full of them driving around town, there has been one sold in the USA for every 15,000 people, I live in a city of 15,000 people in a county of 30,000 people and there are 4 Chevy Volts that I regularly see in town, Wisconsin was also one of the last states to have the Volt sold here, right around one year ago, almost a year after California, so the fact that there are 4 times as many Volts in town as the national average is pretty impressive to me. |
I saw another Volt at a Mall here last night. No commuter sticker, so it couldn't be one of the others I saw. I do like the Volt, I have to say, because the idea of driving it completely electrically unless I need more range is really cool. Unique on the current market, no?

I had no idea, Ryland. Thanks. But the Volt is rated for something like 35 miles electric only, though I bet that Ford could be hypermiled quite nicely.

I've been fortunate enough to see nearly as many Leafs as Volts(4 to 6 of each) here in Sacramento. I think part of the reason for that is because this is the state capitol and the California Energy Commission is down town somewhere in the area that I work which is where I've seen most of them. I think they get these cars in advance for verification of manufacturer claims. Also saw an unlicensed Tesla Model S running around a couple months ago. What a beauty.

I've only seen one Volt in my entire life. It's actually nice-looking, altough I still wouldn't consider to buy one.

I have seen one Volt in my area a few times, and just saw a leaf for the first time the other day. I will still take my VX though.:D

While driving from Minneapolis to Wisconsin a couple months ago, I saw one Prius after another. Starting counting a few miles outside the Cities, and counted 58 in 155 miles. Thought that was strange.
I've seen a few Volts, and I'm impressed. Makes me wonder what else GM could have done if they spent the last 20 years focusing on "how efficient can we make this?" rather than "how much bigger can we make this SUV?" |
