simple spoiler to prevent cover from lifting
1 Attachment(s)
There is a skylight larger than the one I am posting that the wind while traveling shakes the cover and undoes the latches, causing it to open. Would a spoiler such as a strip of aluminum angle prevent lifting, like in the picture? I say its 3/4" but maybe much smaller (1/2") would work? Thanks for commenting.

I had a pop-up camper roof vent that would crank itself open from the wind buffeting over it. I fixed it with a mini bungee on the crank handle inside before lowering the top for travel.

I'm a little skeptical because it's in the wind shadow of the center peak. That may cut it's efficiency in half. Technically it's a Gurney flap or wickerbill, look those up; I forget what situation they are used for.
I see the rivets that show it has a center bar. I have four 14" square vents. What I use for closure is a full 36 inch piece of 1/8th inch welding rod curved in the center for 19 1/2 inches so it will slip over the center bar. The tails are bent at 90° to each other (aids in install/removal) and so they lay flat against the ceiling. I can't imagine them pulling through, but there is certainly opportunity to double up. |
the rattling is caused by turbulent air flow
if you add a ramp forward and behind the skylight smoothing out the airflow the rattling will go away and as a bonus a tiny little bit better mpg |
