Where to get prescription sunglasses

The best fitting pair of sunglasses I've had were the Oakley Eye Jacket. I'm looking for something of that style but need prescription. What's the cheapest place to get a decent pair of prescription sunglasses?

I bought my eyeglasses at Costco, but wasn't impressed with any of their sunglasses. I'll take another look I guess.

There has to be some Chinese company selling prescription glasses for like $40 somewhere. It's just too lucrative not to. Glasses can't cost more than $10 to manufacture can they?

Did you go to a doctor because you were suffering from un-coolness?

We are in 21 century and medicine still have to prescribe glasses.

Lasik and PKR surgery don't really cure view problems. The first weakens cornea (get thin and the flap never heal) and the second scars cornea. Residual degree are often, specially in high degree myopia. Astigmatism can return even after surgery. And presbyopia have no decent treatment at all.

Shi...t medicine...

One of the big online retailers allows you to post your portrait. And try different frames with that. (Find What fits facial shape; pupil dead center of lense).

Eyeglasses come down to lense quality. Large differences exist.

I recommend DRIVEWEAR (now by Transitions). Seiko, Nikon or German lenses. Add antiscratch and antireflect. Top Essilor products.

I’ve worn prescription since 1964. You get what you pay for. In this instance it isn’t so much the initial expense, but how soon you’ll replace them. Lens material degradation.

You want “expensive” try higher diopter need AND bifocal. $1k is easy to hit (the frames arent the expense).

If you live in a major metro there will still be dispensing opticians with a long-term relationship with labs, etc. A rich clientele. That’s where quality will be. Start with an opthamological exam. (You DONT want the chain retailer on pad site).

You want crap, well, that’s what is mainly out there these days. “Discount”. And you’ll never know what is quality or why to insist on it. Just go back every 2-3 years.

(Never remove or install without two hands. Never place anywhere except in dedicated case. Use Dr Bronners liquid soap to clean daily. Carry liquid lense cleaner & microfiber designed for such).

With prescription stuff, I would NOT recommend online.

I agree, the industry, and most of medicine, is crap.

There should be someone making minimum wage, or just a bit higher, asking me "does this one, or this one look better". Better yet, eliminate the person altogether and just have a machine prompt the person as it switches through lenses, and then spit out a "prescription" at the end.

Then the eyeglass retailers require a prescription to sell glasses. What do they care if I made up the prescription myself? Not like there are eyeglass junkies out there wearing wrong prescriptions to get a "fix".

It should cost $30 to determine the correction to my eyes, and then maybe $40 for the glasses.

The whole "you get what you pay for" is nonsense with glasses. That's why I'm looking for a bargain. Even if a pair of $30 glasses didn't work out, they were only $30 and I can try again many times before I hit $400.

BTW, the Oakleys I bought were the most fragile glasses I've ever owned. The arms eventually got brittle and broke just putting them on. I probably went through 10 arms before giving up.
