slurping fuel in Seattle
I am new to this forum. I am looking for a 4 seater gas saver -- I was turned onto the HF crx, but I have kids so that is out. Then a colleague told me about the civic vx and I cannot find one.
Now I just read about the 3-stage d15b -- what cars did those come in? Pete |
Welcome to the site Pete.
I'm pretty sure that 3 stage engine is an imported engine never used in production here in the US. While the VX and HX are great cars, you can still get very good mileage in a Corolla, Saturn SL1, or generally any smaller car with a smaller engine in it. |
mpg for geeks
yeah, probably. I am just compelled to get the geekiest coolest mileage machine and then mylar the windows so nobody sees me driving it. I was going to get a first gen CRX hf and then I heard of the starlet (which i think is the lightest semi modern car availalbe at 1400 or so lbs and RWD), then I saw the VX and thought "hey that car looks actually reliable and up to date with moulded bumper covers etc." I don't like the looks of the saturns.
Corollas are nice. I have a vintage sprinter race car. I have Pete |
Welcome. I personally wouldn't buy anything older than 1996. Then you're assured of having the ability to plug a Scangauge or Ultragauge into the OBD-II port, and dual front air bags for safety. Ultra high mpg capability isn't worth much if you're in a dangerous tin can like a CRX that will inflict serious injury on you in an accident.
But your risk threshold may be a lot higher. |
I do own a 1964 lotus elan race car.

Honda all the way.... Either one, Civic VX, or CRX HF, will have no problem pulling 60 mpg. I love the civic hatchbacks, and have never got better gas mileage in anything else.
