simple muffler question.
Well my muffler fell off (rust) and Midas replaced it last in 2010.
I'm almost positive I have a warranty but if not I was looking for one at a major chain autozone, advanced auto, pep boys, salvo, and napa.
I might need to buy one tomorrow.
How are they any different from each other??
the $45 one and the $90 one look the same.

I don't think that any choice would have a significant effect on mpgs...
maybe sound, but not fuel milage.
I'd go with the cheaper of them.

Ah, the Cherry Bomb--that takes me back to high school. It will be a lot louder--a lot louder--but that will work, sure. Those are a 2.5" inlet/outlet, bigger than the stock exhaust on both the cars listed in your garage, so you'll need to weld in an adapter before the muffler.

Cheaper one will fall apart faster. I put 2 on my saturn. 1st was a steel replacement that rusted out in a couple years, second was the more expensive stainless steel replacement and held up better but still needed to be replaced if I had kept the car. Either way you look at it I needed to buy 2 mufflers for a car I drove for 110k miles and needed a 3rd. My experience is buy the cheap one and plan to replace it often because the expensive one is not going to last long enough to warrant the extra cost.

That's a little surprising, but I guess it depends on the car. Mine did increase over stock. It was modest, but as the little 4 cylinder breaths a much better. The effects may bigger on a smaller engine. I went with TRD, which in my case was actually Borla exhaust. |

A glasspack will work fine and wont be too loud if you are sure to install about 18-24 inches of pipe behind the unit. The reason "fart cans" are so loud is that they don't have enough pipe behind them to smooth the raspiness of the larger diameter. Think of a trumpet... it quickly transitions from a small diameter to a large diameter.

FWIW, this debate about MPG and muffler choice has come up often and repeatedly. I did a summation post, with the crowd-source editorial assistance of the forum (it as links to the best dscussions): http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tml#post289125
(Upshot is that most likely mufflers have little or no effect on MPG unless the whole exhaust system is tuned along with the muffler or pipe-diameter changes.)

Midas didn't stand by the warranty so I went and got a $30 thrush turbo and gave my brother $40 to replace a section of pipe put a tip on the end and new hangers.
