My Wife, the hypermiler!

Hey everyone.

My wife, Kristin, is a wonderful person. She is also a worrier and works in an office with too many negative-nelly's.

All this about the cost of gas lately has sort of been getting to her.

I recommended that she just slow down on the highway on her commute to and from work (25 miles each way, mostly freeway). Just go 55 and set the cruise. I sort of figured that was the simplist advice I could give for a little better fuel economy.

She drove Mon. to Thursday this week, going 178 miles and her fuel gauge read a little less than three-quarters of a tank. I know her fuel gauge is off by a little, but it still sounds much better than typical.

She also said how much less stressed she felt driving 55. No passing, not in a rush, less-stressful driving.

If we all took this attitude to driving, we would all be more relaxed, safer, and save more than enough gas to make it all worth it.

I will post what here fuel economy comes to next time we fill up.

That's cool when the whole family gets involved. I was the lone ranger for about a year. Now it's like a well oiled machine all the parts working together nicely. I guess that could be considered ecomodding the mind

Great news! With gas prices going up and rattling off a few numbers I'm starting to persuade my wife to start doing a few more things (she already slowed down for the most part). I can't wait to see her hitting 40s consistantly! Looking forward to hearing some numbers out of the sunfire too. I have a good friend who drives one (like a crazed maniac) and would like to tell her what kind of mileage she could get if she just slowed down!

You should enter a fuel log for her, too,

I taught my mom the tricks I've been learning on here. The one she has learned the best would be not accelerating to a red light. I showed her that by anticipating red lights she could actually save a good amount of gas and possibly also get where she's going a little faster because she never had to stop so didn't need to take the time to accelerate (I know, that's stretching it, but she liked the idea).

I've also got my dad into the fuel conscious mode as well. He owns a 2007 Infinity QX56 (the big honking SUV built off the Nissan Armada). He was getting around 22MPG with this thing on his daily commute into the city. He already drive pretty steadily, he anticipates lights and doesn't accelerate hard. But I managed to convince him to start driving the grocery getter (2000 Accord V6) to work rather then the SUV. He is now getting almost 30MPG on his commutes and he keeps asking for ways he can do better, so it's almost like we're in a neck and neck race for who can get the best gas millage (of course I'm still winning with a 2MPG better average score and 6MPG better "best" score).

I actually try to avoid the Interstate when possible and take the "scenic route" myself.

Just broke 30 mpg on this last tank of gas with her driving 55 on freeway.

Just fueled up Kristin's car again. 29.86 MPG.

http://forum.ecomodder.com/em-fuel-l...?vehicleid=120

Just a TINY bit less mpg than last time. I will have to check the tires.

It got warm once. She may have used the A/C at some point.

Coming up on time for an oil change. I may have to look into synthetic oil, see if that can help with fuel economy too!

I love the fuel log: "slowed down" = best tank so far.
