So what's on your scangauge?
Just curious what others generally keep running on their scangauge. Personally, I have the trip mpg (xgauge), mph, instant mpg, and gph.

TPS - - - - MPG
LBN - - - - aFE TPS is critical to helping the car stay in lean burn. Has to be <20 to go in. Anything over 31, and it will go out of LB. aFE is Average Fuel Economy for the current trip. It's an X-Gauge setting based on the avg mpg for current trip. The manual tells how to set up that one. LBN is Lean Burn, for my Civic HX. Below is the setup for that gauge. I got the setup from a post by MrChoi on another board. Use the code below to monitor lean burn with the Scan Gauge II. To Monitor Lean Burn, type in: TXD 686AF10115 RXF 044105150000 RXD 2808 MTH 000100020000 NAM LBN and save. If the value for LBN = 0 you are in lean burn. If the value is higher than zero, you are not in lean burn. |
MPH fWT
MPG LOD I like the MPH readout because my speedo only shows increments of 2. Water Temp is useful because I'm experimenting with grill blocks, and I want to make sure my engine doesn't warm up enough to trigger the fan. It's always fun to have the current mpg. LOD is my favorite display; it's perfect for DWL. |
Trip gallons used (that's the quantity I try to minimize), trip mpg, °FwT so I know when to turn on the heater.
|
;) |
I use my GPH as an approximation of DWL. I use it as a way to ensure a "steady foot" driving technique.
Shovel: Why do you use the ATF temp? Even though it does affect FE, it seems like it would be something you can't directly control. |
I don't use scangauge as a fuel efficiency tool... but I do use my truck for "very rough service" in Arizona - and transmissions are expensive. When the trans fluid is over ~210 or so, I stop & idle (only happens on long/steep inclines now that a large aux. cooler is fitted) - the factory equipped warning lamp only illuminates when trans temp exceeds 290F  - juice doesn't last long at that kind of temp

Lately I've been showing water temp in lower right corner.
Don't want to run hot in warmer weather. I put the grill block on during winter so I don't know exactly what effect it will have in warmer weather. |
Average Gas Mileage --- Water Temp (F)
Instant mileage --------- Throttle position |
Instant MPG---------------Boost (xgauge; manifold abs. pressure minus 1atm.)
Intake Air Temp (ºF)-----Engine Load I just got my SGII today, so I'm sure I'll be playing around with settings for awhile yet... |
Boost
Water temp trip mpg mpg |
Instant MPG MPH
Water temp. Avg MPG My scan gauge has has helped me take my truck from 26 mpg to 31 mpg. I have greatly adjusted my driving habits based on it's readings and seen the benefit. I am monitoring water temp as I have added a grill block. It's been said here before, this is the first mod you should make. |
31 mpg in the S10 - you're already beating your original goal, Super22LL. Congrats. Isn't the SG great?
|
Instant mpg
Trip mpg (same as "current" screen) Water temp - grill blocking VLT / LOD / GPH / whatever else The first two give me all I really need for maximizing mileage. At first the others were useful, but just for the learning period. VLT in the winter with EOC and headlights. |
MPG......GPH
AVG......FWT/TPS/RPM/MPH/VLT The lower right gets switched as needed. The others don't change. |
Yeah Metro, the scan gauge is great. I thought it would be hard to meet my goal but it's come along very fast. I guess I need to set another goal lol.
The scan gauge has taught me how to drive, and the proper route to take to and from work. I haven't had to haul anything on this tank, it's been strictly work commuting. I plan on filling up today or tomorrow, so I'll have my new up to date MPG in my sig. If you don't have a Scan Gauge, you need to get one.:D |
I always monitor Instant and Trip MPG (well, L/100km).
The two others depends on how I feel, or if I want to pay close attention to something else. Usually they're: Boost, Air intake temp, Water temp, Load, Voltage... |
I just got mine this week but right now I have:
AVG - - - - TPS MPG - - - - fIA I find the TPS helps me keep a steady throttle and the instant MPG helps me keep my foot out of it on takeoffs, I try to always stay above 10mpg instant. Very preliminarily, my Escape seems less prone to kick out of OD up a hill when the IA is over ~105 dF, which would seem to say hot air gives it more power, can this be? I gotta play with it some more but maybe a WAI would be good for mine. I just got the SGII a week ago, I have not messed with xgauge yet but plan to, I want to be able to check trans fluid temp and I think I want tank mpg instead of trip mpg on my gauge panel. |
MPG - - LOD
GPH - - IGN I think I'm going to replace GPH with OPENLP/CLSDLP and see how I like that. |
GPH.......MPG
LP..........LOD MPG-self explanatory I use LOD when I can DWL. I use LP to keep my self in closed loop on acceleration whenever possible. GPH is mostly just gee-whiz info, I haven't though what else to put in that spot. I don't generally try to maintain constant mpg during acceleration, just during steady driving. Brief low mpg during acceleration followed by coasting seems to give the best average mpg. |
I have 6 items I want to see:
------------------------------ Big Current MPG on MPGuino car has OEM tachometer MPG --- LOD VLT --- FWT ------------------------------ Current MPG lets me see how things are adding up. Tachometer - a must for shift points MPG - for instant readout LOD - watching to keep around 75 during pulse VLT - i have starting issues of volts drops to 11 FWT - I have found FE is better if I don't push the engine hard until it's over 148f also: sometimes I will swap out VLT for an x-gauge of current trip average speed. |
...this question sounds like an excellent candidate to be POLL response, ie: select the four items you typically display.
