Sold on eBay
https://www.ebay.com/itm/29444132564...2Cchnl%3Dmkcid -------------------------------------------------------- 1992 Civic VX $6500 Bought from the executor of my deceased friend’s estate. He passed away May 2021. He purchased the vehicle new at the age of 44 in the summer of 1992. He also had a 1940 Packard, a 1975 450SL, and a 2017 Prius. I am the 2nd owner. It is an unmodified original car. Some parts have been replaced as part of routine maintenance. 154k original miles. Clean title. Starts up immediately hot or cold, runs/drives great and has good power. Tracks and brakes straight. Idles at approximately 700 rpm with engine warm, 1400 rpm cold. No fluid leaks. Does not use oil between oil changes. Last year, driving from El Paso to Phoenix he got 54 mpg. He always drove for maximum fuel economy and tried to keep it in lean burn mode. He told me that he never ran the engine near redline. He drove carefully and gently. The wheels, for example, don’t have curb rash. The original tire size is 165/70/R13. Although still available, they are getting harder to source. Currently 175/70/R13. He kept tires at 40 psi. The rear bumper had minor damage and was repainted at the car dealership. I have a receipt for the work showing $438 for repair and paint. It has a few scratches and parking lot dings. There is a scuff mark on the plastic driver’s air bag cover near the top. Always a Southwest USA car that was never smoked in. I removed the ECU and inspected the circuit board. It looks like new. None of the nine capacitors are bulging or leaking. The records are incomplete, but my friend changed the oil every 3k-4k miles. He always changed the oil filter when changing the oil. I removed the oil filler cap and looked inside. It is clean and no sign of sludge or discoloration. Once warmed up, the temperature gauge is always at approximately the halfway position. I Drove it in Phoenix during the summer and the gauge is steady. AC, passenger door mirror, and pinstripes were dealer installed. The Civic VX did not have body side molding from the factory. It was added. The car did not come with factory air conditioning. However, an OEM Air conditioning system installed at the Honda dealership in 1996. R134 refrigerant. He also had the AC system serviced as needed. Has window tint and it is in good condition but does have a few scratches. Has a Trunk Cargo Security Cover purchased after the car was delivered. Guessing he bought it from the Honda dealership as it looks OEM. The “cloth” on the inside of the doors is starting to separate. There is wear on the driver’s seat bolster as can be seen in the photo. Tiny part of the driver’s side of the rear spoiler/wind deflector is chipped off. Windshield has been replaced with an after-market unit. There is some pitting in the windshield but it was not noticeable while I was driving. There are tiny chips on the front bumper and the front part of the hood. Has an aftermarket hose clamp on air intake, can be seen in the photo. The positive battery cable terminal has been replaced. Has a one year old, 4 year free exchange AGM battery. He towed it behind his motorhome and it has wiring for the brake lights and turn signals. Radio antenna does not completely retract. Passenger side mirror does not have full range of motion when using the adjustment handle. Don’t know if the cassette deck works. Everything works, except as noted above. He kept it garaged. Probably why it was never stolen ;.). Comes with a light car cover that can be used while parked in the garage. It was one of the most fuel efficient non-hybrid cars ever sold in the USA and the first to use VTEC-E. I have the original window sticker, at the time it was EPA rated 48 mpg city and 55 highway. For more photos go to: https://www.honda-acura.net/forums/v...vx-6500-a.html Info on the D15Z1 1.5L engine: The engine achieves the same gas mileage as the 88-91 CRX HF model with an additional 30 hp. Factory-equipped wideband O2 sensors Some info re the Civic VX : The LAF (lean air fuel) sensor used on the '92-95 VX model can be used to detect air/fuel ratios in a range from approximately 12:1 to 22:1 air/fuel ratio. If an air/fuel ratio richer than 12:1 is required, the ECU will go into open loop. (48-state applicable) VX is the only 5th generation Civic to with a factory rear bumper diffuser and front spoiler. VX is the only fifth-generation Civic that came with factory alloy wheels, 9 pounds each. Factory tachometer on the VX models. Extra tall gearing set up for maximum fuel economy. The cupholder design in this generation seems very fragile, yet this one is intact and in good shape. |

With a car this old, documentation of the maintenance is still important but holes in documentation would be expected. Twenty-nine years is a lot of time and nobody is perfect in record keeping. The Carfax is good. The photos are pretty amazing and reveal a remarkably clean 29 year old car with 100+k miles. It looks more like a well maintained 10 year old car. Anybody needing further proof of its condition can just do the inspection that they should do anyway. Nice car, hey!
I am not familiar with the prices for these VXs. Have you seen comparable sales or asks? |
Thank you.
Prices for these VXs have been going up in the last couple years. They are getting hard to find in unmodified and very good condition. The VX in the link below sold recently on eBay. The "See the full Vehicle History Report" in the link it indicates " 05/27/2020 Auto Insurance Source VEHICLE REPORTED AS TOTAL LOSS". Of course insurance companies look up the KBB price, and it takes almost nothing to total an old car. The car does look pretty good. Sold for $6100. https://www.ebay.com/itm/13379172804...p2047675.l2557 The 95 CX below sold for $4700 with 279k miles. CA car so most likely no rust. https://www.ebay.com/itm/26517723034...p2047675.l2557 |
My friend kept the interior and body clean, and waxed the car on a regular basis. He never detailed the engine compartment or undercarriage. I left those as is, so that prospective buyers could look for engine leaks etc. Also, unless a person is very careful, spraying an engine with water can result in electrical issues, for example.
Also, I have many additional photos of the vehicle, for anyone interested, that show greater detail. |
That $6100 has a custom sound system, so that probably helped with price. To me, that would be a debit, not a credit. He has a Kenwood aftermarket head unit in the dash. Yuck. You have the original OEM, and THAT is rarer. I wish I had money. Somebody... buy and take care of this car.

I will not have proper storage for the VX (my house is up for sale) and I hope that someone who can preserve this car buys it. I had been asking him for years to sell it to me. Unfortunately it took his death for me to acquire it. Many years ago, when I first asked him to give me first right of refusal should he ever sell it I was commuting 25-30k miles a year and it would have been the perfect car at that time. I'm retired now and drive much less. Also, as stated, my house is now on the market and I probably wont have a garage at the apartment. Not sure where I will move yet, but that is the plan.
I would not recommend that anyone buy it who is living in an apartment or otherwise have the car exposed outside. These are still stolen frequently when unattended for extended periods. I look for these VXs and it has been over 5 years since I've seen one on the road in original condition. Many have been modded and repainted, so if I happened to see one of those on the street I wouldn't be able to identify it as a VX. |

If it does, post that photo... people don't know about it much. Only the VX had it, I think, and such a photo might help sale(?). |

This car was my friend's "baby". He really cared for it.
I don't believe he ever revved it above 3500 or so rpm. I told him once that it might be a good idea to gradually bring the rpm up to 5000 rpm on the freeway run it for 10 minutes in order to do an "Italian tuneup". He looked at me almost as if he were horrified and didn't like that idea at all. Not making this up...remember it well. In any case I'm like he was and usually keep the rpm in the low range. |

That is a formidable photo archive, but I love the detail. You seem to have a bunch of OEM parts that are commonly swapped for "performance" (such as the airbox) or replaced when they fail (such as the distributor) with aftermarket parts. Also, it has been years since I have seen a fifth gen Civic rolling around Cali with its tailgate/trunk decal mostly or entirely in tact. Sun, salt, and general weather destroy them over time. The "Civic VX" decal on yours looks pretty good, though weathered. You also have the front bumper lip still, and it is in tact. That often disappears. And you have the original 13" ultra light rims, and they are pretty. Rims are often swapped.
Fun to see. |

My friend was a careful driver and the original rims (not refinished) reflect that. They don't have curb rash and are in really nice shape. If detailed, would look even nicer. All I did wash wash them with car wash detergent and I was amazed at the condition they in. |
Another price point.

Hey GJKH,
Is the VX still available? |
Someone has a ticket to fly out on Wednesday and drive the car back to FLA. I will contact you if he changes his mind.

Thanks for the quick reply. Looks like an awesome deal. I'm sure he'll make the purchase. If not I'll be waiting. Thanks again.

Purchase

I didn't think I would be able to purchase this vehicle after being so late to this thread. That being said, the previous buyer backed out and Glenn contacted me then following day. We spoke on the phone for weeks, working out every scenario. I ended up purchasing the VX and it was delivered 4 days ago.
This car is a dream come true for me. I know if anyone was following this thread this car meant a lot to him and Kevin. Glenn went above and beyond for me. The car was purchased sight unseen. He represented it as best as anyone could. I just want to give him a shout out. Nothing was held back, not even why the previous buyer backed out. That said. The vx is in a new home where "she" will be well taken care of. :) P.s. I only have pictures of the unloading. The car is now on the east coast and the guy who delivered it was awesome (shout out to Bill). He was as helpful as Glenn. :)) |
Very happy that the car is going to a VX enthusiast. Kevin wanted the car to go to someone who would not modify the car and I believe you are that person. Thanks for posting the photos.

Thanks for posting. I sold the car to a man from Tennessee, so the ad is most probably legitimate. And yes, it's the car in this thread
|
Looks like the private craigslist ad was pulled, now it's listed through a dealer called Motorcars Atlanta
It sucks seeing a vehicle being purchased solely for resale at an inflated price. The enthusiasts like myself, who would actually keep it original, and keep it forever....miss out. youtube. com/watch?v=Y8zFZabgRBc&ab_channel=MotorcarsAtlanta (copy link and remove the space before .com) |
The re-listed price is now 15,000 on FB Marketplace. |
