Also seems the forum goes DDOS about the same time CHINA mainland gets daylight. Or at least according to the daylight map, give or take 5 minutes. Sunrise happens on that map across mainland, no longer have access to log on or forum access if logged on

My phone rang this morning for the first time since 09/31! I had to reconnect and reboot the modem to get Internet. Now waiting for the first commercial message to hit the answering machine.

Didn't know messages were still a thing with posting calling number on screen. Seems to be: if you don't recognise number you either auto block it or ignore it.

My phone (an AT&T 210) doesn't have a screen. Doesn't caller ID cost extra?
First thing I learned when I went to Youtube is Starlink now has three levels of residential usage. Bottom tier is $40/month. The receiver is now $299.
Once the Arcimoto FUV is parked in my carport, that sounds like a next step into the 21st Century.

All the extras you had to buy are now part of the monthly fee, last I looked $30? Phone included has 1000 times more power than the mainframe we used to do CADCAM on for sattelites. Bonuses: all sorts of stuff downloadable doing whatever you want, only takes up some of available storage. Does require decent wifi to download and run....USB dongles are amazing and wifi downloads are free (ish)

It's complicated. Satellite phones date to 1976. When cell phones appeared I wondered why the investment in infrastructure was justified. And the Stingrays and SIM banks.
Starlink direct to cell just has been a long time coming.
I did go out on Saturday and got a Tracfone with 120 minutes of talk time for $60. Land line was back this morning, but I had to go back to Best Buy for help with initializing the Tracfone.

Terrestrial and Celestial have overlapping strengths and weaknesses. Anything that excludes the other probably won't last.
Cellular technology is genius, and there's a reason why limiting the range was a smart move.
All of communication is attempting to solve the signal to noise ratio.
