Sorry for the crash today!

I'm sure a lot of you noticed that we were no where to be found for most of the day. This is not because we don't love you guys (in fact, all three of us have been working feverishly to fix the situation), but it's because the site ended up getting so much traffic that it went down.

We had quite a bit of trouble with our old host, but since then have switched hosts to someone we hope will be much better and will serve you guys much more reliably. I would like to treat this as a learning experience that will ultimately improve the robustness of the site, :).

Thanks for sticking with us through the troublesome bits! I'm sure we'll be back to full power at no time. :turtle:

Unfortunately you will have lost several hours of posts, but I'm sure you all can re-write them better than ever!

Our new host seems quite solid (not to mention a bit more expensive - hint hint).

DifferentPointofView 01-31-2008 07:11 PM

WHERE DO I START PAYING!!! lol. I wish I could help with the expenses, but I'm strapped with no cash as is. Hope everything goes fine!

diesel_john 01-31-2008 07:45 PM

You do good work. There are so many interesting topics going on i can tell traffic has increased since the first of the year since i started reading. Great job.

Daox 01-31-2008 07:52 PM

Good to be back up!

DNS is still down in some areas :/ for instance ecomodder.com is down for me still (I need to use our direct link to access)

SVOboy 01-31-2008 09:14 PM

Thanks for the support guys...DNS is also still down here, but I think my school (which runs the net, no outside isp) is just lazy about updating its dns, :)

Gone4 01-31-2008 09:19 PM

I missed ecomodders today :(

WaxyChicken 01-31-2008 09:40 PM

Me Two2.
And such ironic timing - buy a motor, find the forum down. It makes me feel like someone's watching me. http://members.lovingyou.com/images/smilies/alien.gif

Right now this forum is my best source for input on what i'm trying to do. Thank you for getting it back up so fast. You guys are my saviors.

I hardly knew what to do this morning when there was no EM to while away my time on. I had to get all desperate and go lurk on CleanMPG. Aaah, all better now, got my EM fix...

elhigh 02-01-2008 01:48 AM

Well, I'm not entirely strapped for cash. I'll send a check if you tell me where to send it. It ain't gonna be a lot, but some's more than none, right?

I don't shop at Wal-Mart, I buy Girl Scout cookies, and I put money in the plate on Sundays. I'll pony up something.

NoCO2 02-01-2008 04:49 AM

Awesome, glad to see you guys are back. I literally didn't know what to do with myself yesterday when I sat down for my daily dose of ecotech.

dremd 02-01-2008 06:31 AM

Best kind of Outage to have :-)
Welcome back everyone.
For a while I was thinking it was an issue on my end; we has sever weather here yesterday.

MetroMPG 02-01-2008 06:51 AM

With the surge in traffic from Digg yesterday, it was kind of like winning the lottery... and then losing the ticket!

How ironic is it that the feverish work we've been putting in to grow the site led to the feverish work dealing with an overwhelmed server. :P Too much of a good thing may in fact be a bad thing.

DNS is still down for me this morning, though it was working briefly late last night. It'll be sorted out and back to normal soon enough...

Yes too much of a good thing can in fact be a bad thing. I am the poster child for that bit of wisdom. Much of my life has been spent recovering from too much of a good thing.
On a car related note. Too much port work on your head will result in a net LOSS of power. Don't ask for the details, just take my word on this.

Back on topic. I thought the gubmint was denying my right to goof off at work last night by not letting me get to EM.

SVOboy 02-01-2008 08:06 AM

Woo, the dns finally propagated out here, I'm so excited, :)

TomO 02-01-2008 10:53 AM

DNS has propagated to TIES ISP for MN here as well.

Thank goodness EM is back, I was going through withdrawal!

brucepick 02-01-2008 11:19 AM

Thanks for bringing it back, guys - I missed EM!

Uh Oh....the prairie dog is up to it again -
