Spontaneous offer

Hey... looking for some quick opinions.

I have been offered a '95 Metro for $675.. It's in decent condition, 240k miles with recent timing belt replacement.

The ugly- first gear is shot.

It's going to cost me another $200 in fuel to transport it home.

I am thinking that this might be a perfect opportunity to acquire an efficient commuter to drive to work instead of the Mustang.

Any thoughts?
How hard is it to replace the 5-speed in one of these?
Are there any other model specific soft spots I should be looking for?

Thanks =)

Dooo it! Can't be too hard to fix.

The killer is rust. The body can look OK, but the control arm mounts go, and then you tear a wheel off while you're driving. Search for pics of this problem and how it can be repaired in last week's updates for bennelson's electro Metro thread.

Also a few other pointers here: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...metro-975.html

I have had more fun messing with my metro than any other car I have had/built :)

Once you get one you won't be able to keep your hands off it playing with it. I say get it and fix whatever problems it has. They can't be that expensive to fix pretty much no matter what is wrong with it.

You may want to check out my very own Metro thread. In there you will find a complete illustrated guide on how to replace the transmission. Read it here........

You better jump on that car! If you read through my thread, you will see that all parts/cost were included in each repair and near the last couple pages, I totaled all the money invested in the car and then estimated the cost of driving my truck for that same period and I still came out way ahead in savings even after all the repairs needed to save this car. You will also see pictures of where the subframe is known to rust out on these cars in there, so make sure you check that first! If it is a little rusty, but no structural problems, you can still fix it and get some good life out of the car.

Let us know!

Get the car.

First gear is for losers!

Put an electric motor in it and pull away from lights in second gear!

Seriously, they are good little cars, and fun to work on, but make sure the body isn't all rusted out. Welding things up is hard work!
