Starting the hypermiling journey with a thirsty behemoth

Hello friends,

I drive a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee that averages 18mpg's. Over a few years I have learned some hypermiling techniques:
-to sneak back home at 3am, I usually used to glide down the hill with the engine off
-for 4 months when I was dealing with the "unknown jeep death disease" my car would stall out in any and all traffic; I learned how to keep the engine off when going down hills and traffic lights

Today I have decided to put my life experience and my readings on this forum to the test. Starting today, I am on a quest for mpg's. I plan on changing wheels for a Geo Metro in the coming months, but for now, I can be learning the basics of hypermiling while squeezing evey drop from my thirsty beast of a whip. Any tips/tricks/hints specific to the JGC are especially welcome.

Welcome! For obvious reasons, the Geo is one of the favorites on here. Tons of info.

But plenty of people here have bigger rigs, and 4X4's.

Be sure to use the search mode in the upper left part of the page to bring up your pertinent matter.

Today I took the journey back to school with 1/2 the grille clear taped, the roof rack crossbars all the way to the back, tires to 40psi, antenna off and a super light foot. 25mpgs and NOT complaining.
