|
That's nothing. My Yaris gets 1,337.

Somebody posted this elsewhere on Ecomodder, but maybe it didn't get it's own thread. Ironically, my coworker *also* showed me this today (she knows my penchant for MPG), so I guess it's getting a lot of play. Now that they've done a $170K concept, they need to do a "UMC analysis" (Unit Manufacturing Cost) to see how much this little puppy could cost in production. CarloSW2 |
I remember reading the article as well
it weighs as much as I do http://go635254.s3.amazonaws.com/gas...ahimo-ed01.jpg they came in third btw the grand prize winner hit 2,757.1 mpg http://www.shell.us/home/content/usa...alresults.html |
Aww, how cute, it even looks like a little car. I'm sure it's fuel-efficient at its top speed of 15-20mph, but can it climb a hill or survive a pothole?
Don't get me wrong, it's incredibly efficient, but it's not a car. |
Not a general purpose automobile, no. It's more a research test-bed or prototype. Still, these things need to exist before the theories and components can be refined and distilled into something more practical. Not every idea will be a winner, but sometimes you just have to throw the bowl of spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks.

this is the winner (2,757.1 mpg) definitely not a normal car http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2462/...ed89810c33.jpg |
I would just love to build something like this. I have one on paper that is similar in chassis structure and would weigh about 800 lbs. Would make a great little round about town car. And with some small slicks a cheap track days toy.:D
