Subaru mod suggestions
 

I am new to ecomodding and have been very happy with just changing my driving habits by watching my scanguage going from 21mpg to about 28 now in my 04 Subaru Outback wagon 2.5 5mt, I have removed my roof rack cross bars, used packing tape to cover the grill, fog light holes, and half the bumper mouth, my tires are about 6psi over the door sticker. I was wondering if anyone had any more tips for mods that would be good for my car nothing too drastic like a boat tail but I was looking at smooth wheel covers and belly pans. Any suggestions and types of gains expected would be helpful.

Subies tend not to respond very much to modification. You've already made the best changes. 28 MPG in a Subaru is very good.

I think the one style that works with my Forester on the highway is pulse and glide. It runs so much RPM because of the gearing. I have a 2002 manual and I think it has a .75 overdrive but 4.11 gears. With the small tires it turns a bunch of RPM but has lots of power. So I will run it up to 65, then clutch or neutral down to 55. It gets old but doing that I have seen well into the 30's at least according to the torque app. I just don't highway much, and if I am it's to get to the turnoff to the forest service road where mileage goes to crap. Day to day, all around town, I get 23 just driving normally (thats real hand calculated at the pump) but shifting early, like under 2000 rpm and of course anticipating stops. I have tried the 0-20 oil but didn't notice any improvement, but did end up getting a low oil pressure light a few times so I switched back to 5-30. I have changed the gear oil as well, but still really feel a drag when first starting out in freezing weather from the drivetrain. My tires are at 40-43 psi summer but I run studded snow in the winter at a normal 35. I don't usually bother checking my winter mileage, it is over 20 but not by much when I do.

Thanks for the advice I’m gonna just keep improving my driving habits and possibly some small mods and see if I can get my average over 30mpg. My commute to work helps due to it being a bunch of small rolling hills and a 40mph speed limit for half of it then about half highway.

I've found vehicles which don't respond well to most mods often respond well to a kill switch. I like to burn fuel up a hill (maintain constant speed), cut the engine off at the top, and coast down the other side.

Is the best way to do this is to cut power to the injectors I was think that would be the easiest and instant shut off of fuel
