Suzuki 125 conversion - YouTube series
Frank from http://theworkshop.ca has poked around EcoModder a little bit. We've seen his "Dirt-e bike" project: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...rsion-286.html
I just discovered he's been documenting a pretty cool conversion of a Suzuki 125 on his web site, and YouTube: Web: Suzuk-E (1987 Suzuki RM125 Electric Conversion) YouTube channel (6 videos of this project, so far): http://www.youtube.com/user/theworkshopdotca Frank gets right into it - you even get to see him cast custom pulleys in sand by melting down some aluminum hard drive chassis. Well beyond "quick 'n' dirty" ForkenSwift stuff, but inspiring. The casting is partway through this vid: Custom made soundtrack too! :D |
Oh, man, I'm impressed.
He made his own motor sprocket! http://www.theworkshop.ca/energy/suz...es_drilled.JPG http://www.theworkshop.ca/energy/suz...ed_sproket.JPG From near the bottom of this page: Suzuk-E (1987 Suzuki RM125 Electric Conversion) WHY make a sprocket?? Read his explanation; his writing is a hoot. |
Haha, that's the motor I was going to use.
I have seen this before, but I think it was only the part 2 video that I caught a glimpse of before. |
Very very cool!!
|
I'm glad to see that there are still people out there who make stuff.

That casting is very cool:thumbup:. It would be neat to try doing that for an adapter plate used on an EV conversion. You would need lots of little scraps of aluminum though.

that diy sprocket has another benefit, it is difficult to find front and rear sprockets with even number of teeth in a ratio that you want, but if you can (and you "phase" your chain) you can improve chain and sprocket wear characteristics, according to the late great Sheldon Brown anyway:
