The Suzuki Swift is still a super sweet car!
Too bad you can't buy it in the US...I was really impressed by the look of these when I saw a bunch last summer in Japan, but this bit of news I found even more impressing:

The Suzuki Swift is currently sold in Canada, but it's getting a bad rep as they are just unreliable and inefficient rebadged Daewoos. I would however really consider a Suzuki made swift as a small commuter.

It does have quite the good looks in my opinion. |
Well, maybe I generalized a bit. I owned a 2004 swift+ for 3 years and was stating my opinion. I agree it looks good and there's a lot of inside space for such a small car. But the motor, the 2004 at least, was a real gas hog for the size. The car was very prone to rust. The parts were also only available through the stealer and were really expensive.
I had a very good experience with a 91 swift in the past, and not so much with the 2004. That's why I would only consider a Suzuki made swift. |

UK£ 10 515 = 20,752 U.S. dollars
That seems a little high, but then again I don't normally buy new cars. |
The 010 swift is supposed to be coming back to america.
Is it Anything like the Geo Metro or just a plain pile? Suzuki Swift coming to the U.S. in 2010 — Autoblog |
That's great news...I've always loved the car :)

Why does Suzuki sell rebadged Daewoos and Fiats in the US when it builds its own brilliant cars over seas?
|
Can't believe the 1.0 is gone. I think it's a good mill and further development could have made it even better.
I liked the styling direction of the older Metro/Swift better- more sleek, less chunky, although in spite of saying that the new one looks good too. Now if only they would decide to provide rust protection and yes, stop raping the customer at the parts counter. Those two things alone would keep me from patronizing them. |
thats the same 1.3 diesel out of the fiat 500!!!
thas odd about rust - one of my drivers has one does a huge a comute even on salted roads and now after 3+ year it looks mint. and he has the 1.3 petrol - which he said previously is ok on the juice, its is quite heavy though compare similar cars in the class. |
Well just about anything still looks decent with only 3 years in the salt.
By year 8 or so it will be crumbling away all around him. :( |

Back when Kinetic Vehicles was an Automotive X Prize entrant (and the Metro Middy was on the front burner) our production partner (the rules required 10,000 car per year manufacturing capability) was Pak Suzuki. The Swifts we know and love are still in production in Pakistan as the Suzuki Cultis. It still has a 1 liter engine (993 cc in fact, what a coincidence) but is now a four banger. Here's a link:
Cultus PS--MSR converts to $9200 US for the base model, and a lot less in bulk. Also available in multifuel. |

Ah i have one, a 2005 1.5L version, well technically its my parent's x)
Although the fuel numbers aren't as great as what the older versions have, i still think its pretty good and i can definitely get decent numbers by hypermiling =D, i find its horrible to PnG at highway speeds though, speed drops like a brick. I was wondering why no-one on the fuel economy forums had a 2004+ swift, they don't sell it in the US. EDIT: i don't recall having any major problems with my swift, nor have my parents. Seems to be working perfectly except for that bloody beeping when you have the keys in the ignition and your door is open grrrr... |
