Tanked up on $1.979 Gas !!!

Dude, I can't believe this!

I was down in South Phoenix today, and every gas station in about a 5-mile radius was selling regular for $1.979. Everyone!

Must be having a gas war down there! LoL! Haven't seen those prices in a while... :D

ATaylorRacing 11-18-2008 07:34 AM

Hey Deuce, last week here in the Kokomo-Indy stetch of road it was a great $1.72, but as soon as the news came out about the Nat'l average it went up the next day to $1.89, but after a couple of days it is now $1.79. When I drive into central and southern Ohio it always is a bit cheaper, I wonder if that is true now?

Doofus McFancypants 11-18-2008 07:41 AM

in Atlanta 'burbs - i saw $1.84 on the drive in.

was a down hill section of my commute so i was EOC past it.. : )
gotta wonder when the tide will change and price will start to climb back up...

basslover911 11-18-2008 01:34 PM

I saw 0.98 cents!

And then I woke up...

But no I have seen 1.82 I think down here in Texas.

groar 11-18-2008 04:02 PM

The cheapest is always at 5.15$/g (1.079€/l) by here...

How can you have dinosaur juice cheaper than fruit juice ?

Denis.

ankit 11-18-2008 04:20 PM

I've seen some in the area as low as $1.649. My uncle in ohio said he was selling it for $1.699. These prices are nuts. As much as I like them, people are driving like idiots again. "oh gas is lower than it has been in YEARS, I can afford to drag at every stoplight now."

MazdaMatt 11-18-2008 04:31 PM

Gas is even cheaper than bottled water! (wait a second... )
0.80/L here (which is way more than you yanks are paying) and I haven't seen that price in a couple years.

tt2323 11-18-2008 05:05 PM

1.83 here in MA. I live near the cheapest station in the state!

trebuchet03 11-18-2008 06:56 PM

$1.92

Hooray Faltering Economy?

bhazard 11-18-2008 07:14 PM

Cheapest Ive seen is 1.83, its 1.85-1.87 around here though.

Kaneda 11-18-2008 07:25 PM

im in pittsburgh and the lowest ive seen was $2.19 but i have one of those grocery gas cards and just paid $1.89 for 93 oct. !!! and i hear that its around $1.60 or so at home in Deleware

ATaylorRacing 11-19-2008 09:50 AM

I had to do a delivery yesterday and the price was $1.72 again, but using my Speedway card dropped it to $1.69.....a Speedway 4 miles from my house knocks off five cents per gallon and they are usually priced the same.

99metro 11-19-2008 10:19 AM

$1.78 in Northern Colorado. Denver average is $2.02. But I don't buy the cheap stuff, my pockets aren't deep enough (waste of money).

wagonman76 11-19-2008 12:15 PM

It finally hit 1.99 here up north the other day. Gasbuddy says its 1.86 downstate which is where Ill be this weekend. Hopefully I can get good mileage with the wagon, the Celeb is hibernating for the season.

Katana 11-19-2008 12:52 PM

It's down in england as well from 120.9p to 94.5p a litre in the last couple of months, haven't seen a price that low in ages :)

Unforgiven 11-19-2008 02:01 PM

Fueled up recently at 1.89 while I have seen as low as 1.59 in my travels.

guudasitgets 11-19-2008 11:49 PM

$1.96 today

IndyIan 11-20-2008 08:44 AM

76.9 cents this morning. For some reason we have a station that always 3-10% lower than everyone else. I guess the station on the indian reservation down the road pulls the price down as it's usually 5-10% cheaper again but its too far a drive to make it worth while. For a while there my daily gas bill was about $7.50 to get to work and back, now I'm aiming for less that $5!
Ian

MazdaMatt 11-20-2008 08:56 AM

Ian, where are you from? I saw 79.2 last night in St. Thomas (near London)

bottonavy 11-20-2008 09:14 AM

I filled up in Lebanon,Pa today for $1.96 a gallon. 11/20/2008. I drive about 50 miles to work and the price goes from $2.15 in Pottstown,Pa to $2.09 a gallon Near Reading,Pa and Sinking Spring,Pa. I hope this fuel trend continues for a while.

ATaylorRacing 11-20-2008 10:00 PM

Was down to $1.64 this evening at the local BP!

Z man 11-21-2008 02:38 AM

It's so low that I've stopped hypermiling and tracking my tanks this winter. My scangauge is reporting around 30 to 35mpg for most trips though.

$1.89 is the lowest I've seen.

slurp812 11-23-2008 12:44 PM

about 10 miles from where I live, its $1.59 for a us gallon!

mavinwy 12-03-2008 09:15 AM

It is currently $1.45 ($1.42 with the discount) here in Cheyenne. I'd like it if they saty low while I am driving the jeep so that I can put the Manual Trans in the Neon to up the MPG on it though :)

Why stop? Just cause gas is cheaper doesnt mean you should use more. 20mpg at $2 is the same as 40mpg at $4. Not that you get 20mpg or anything but you get the point.

tjts1 12-03-2008 11:01 AM

Meh, gas is so cheap I idle my engine over night just in case i need to drive down to the corner store for a bag of chips. Hypermiling is sooo 6 months ago.

dremd 12-03-2008 11:42 AM

$1.499 racetrack here in Lafayette, La

wagonman76 12-03-2008 12:11 PM

They raised it here 10 cents. Gasbuddy says its still going lower downstate, $1.66.

bottonavy 12-03-2008 12:38 PM

Dropped to $1.63 in the Harrisburg,PA area.

KJSatz 12-03-2008 05:04 PM

I tried to "stop hypermiling" for a day a couple months ago. Didn't make any damn sense to be so hard on the gas and brakes. Sure, with snowy conditions, I'm not going to be executing any Death Turns or turning anything off, but...eh. There's more to it than just money.

mfor4x4 12-03-2008 09:46 PM

I wish gasoline was that cheep here. I'm paying $0.859 per liter or $3.26 per gallon!!! When gas was at it's most expensive here we were paying $5.53 a gallon!!!:eek::eek:

DifferentPointofView 12-04-2008 10:59 PM

the lowest I've seen it in town here is 1.60 if you pay in cash.

The truck stops had It at 1.52 I think, and with what it is now, I think its gonna be near 1.40 something at the truck stops cause it just went down 10 more cents tonite.

Its so low because no one can afford to buy it. We're in a period of deflation, where the dollar is strong but no cash is going around, so although stuff is cheap no one has money to buy the cheap stuff. The lower oil goes, the worse our economy is. gas is too expensive no matter what if you have no job :(

According to my computer, oil is 43.67 a barrel... down 3.12 a barrel from yesterday... not good. but good... but not really good... You get the idea.

My thoughts are that the skyrocketing of oil is what killed the economy in the first place. Now theyre bringing oil back down but its too late. Its gonna take some time to recover. Its like bringing a fire truck after the house is already burned to the ground.

trikkonceptz 12-05-2008 12:36 PM

Go figure, here in Broward County Fl, where I can flick a cigarette butt and ignite the refinery, gas is still $1.89. More expensive than alot of people in states much further away. I'll never understand that ...

Yea, the high prices killed the economy, and the low ones are the result. Its not that they're bringing it back down, its because no one can afford it, and the demand for it is way down. people are driving less, buying gas less, because they need it to pay for the regular bills. no one is going out to eat, no one is going out with the family to have fun. everyone is staying at home and worrying what will happen next month.

We've been studying it in a class of mine. generally low oil prices don't mean our economy is bad, but right now it might as well be a guage telling us how close we are getting to a straight up depression.

I hope it stays down as our economy gets better. But thats something we'll just have to dream for.:(

I think it may be linked to ethanol production? gas seems to be cheaper around the Midwest (MO) than more eastward past OHIO. but then again I could be wrong.

i_am_socket 12-05-2008 02:52 PM

I filled up on the first for $1.699/gallon. It would have been $1.629/gallon cash, but I didn't have any.

First time in a looooooong time I filled up for under $20.
