DIY Wanted.....

"How to choose a motor"

I've been surfing pages a bit and i've found serveral motors that looked
impressive (like a Motor 1/8 HP 4200 RPM DC motor for a light weight car
possiably....) but then i see they are not at all what i first thought. (like Shaft
Dimension inch: 5/16 x 1-3/4)

So if someone can slap up a DIY for How To Choose A Motor (what to look for,
what size, weight, HP, Volts, Amps, etc...) then i would be grateful. (hum... i
wonder.... possibly use 3 cheap motors instead of 1 expensive motor?...Nah,
someone would of thought of that already and i don't see anything like that
around.)

Thanks.

( me goes back to motor shopping)

Checkout http://evconvert.com/ Jerry is on his second conversion and has a complete log of the work and thought processes for both projects. It is well worth the read.

Ev-America will also sell you systems they put together for your needs and budget. Tons of people converting have had good luck. You get what seems to be a decent price, a guy meeting your requirements, and knowing it will all work together well. http://www.kiwiev.com/ is a great account of converting to an EV from scratch. He also used EV-America.

For those in New England, the company is located in Wolfboro, NH.

As a disclaimer, I have been researching this for a while now but have not been able to do it because of my studies. So consume this post with a grain of salt.

How I chose my motor, was just to go on Austin EV and look to see what everyone else was using. Then I just found what was appropriate, and went to find it used somewhere.

I ended up buying a used ETEK motor for my cycle.

AustinEV's "sort by motor" shows 688 series wound motors, the most popular selection, followed by 292 Permanent magnet DC motors, which is what mine is.
