Tell Those Deer to Learn How to Cross!!!

Time for a little levity. This lady thinks we need to tell the deer where they should (and more importantly, shouldn't) cross the road by placing deer crossing signs in more, strategic positions in less high-traffic areas!

At first I understood where she was coming from, being that I have taken a class for my Environmental Studies major that specifically talks about using tunnels for the animal crossings and designing fences and barricades to help guide the animals to those tunnels. But then she started talking about the signs be the guiding light and she lost me. :D

This is one of the more famous crossings in Banff National Park, which is one of the ones we studied.

Oddly enough, around my friends' place, they do seem to be learning. Instead of jumping out in the road when cars come, they'll just keep grazing by the side of the road. Maybe evolution has killed off all the jumpy ones?

And then she called back...

I guess when your family and friends keep dying, and the sound of the impact scares the living $%&@ out of you, eventually you're going to learn maybe you should stay away from the death machines! They might also be starting to get domesticated in a way, not like a cow, but still "humanized".

When I drive to my parents' house, I drive through a deer crossing. They actually installed stuff trying to encourage deer (and elk) to cross the highway in that section and not elsewhere.

Duh, last time I read the Arizona Driver's License Manual, it stated that YELLOW-colored signs were CAUTIONARY signs to inform drivers about 'situations' requiring additional drivers' attention.

WHITE-colored signs were REGULATORY signs to declare, establish, change, or modify prior REGULATORY signs or regulations.

Is that stretch of highway an area where there is a long straight away, with few trees and other things on the sides to hide behind? (I would imagine that would be the best place to encourage crossing.)

I believe that it is relatively straight, but I do not think that it is very clear.
