Theoretical Car

We all know there are all sorts of engineering mumbo jumbo going on as of late.

After seeing the aerocivic, I was like wow thats ugly, but its worth it.

And then I saw the Urbee.

I thought hey, aero can be cool.

Wouldn't that design be freaking awesome with a turbo diesel or as an electric... or even a serial hybrid?

I'd totally buy that if it was being sold for 20-30k, and I had the money.

The VW 1.6L TDI would fit nicely.
If it did 1 L/100KM in the Lupo, think what it would do in this !
There are a few others that are aero and look good, but so far no production vehicles.
The home builders following Q Rileys XR3 have had good success, but there were some trading aero for agressive looks.
this looks like few comprimises were made.
Now, if it only makes it to production.............

The eco version of the Lupo had a 1.2TDI, and got 3l/100km. But a lightweight car with superior aerodynamics could easily use Smart's 0.8 liter turbodiesel, or something even smaller.

that bluemotion polo 1.2L would be pretty cool actually

The Urbee is more than theoretical:

http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...ids-15069.html

It is a drivable rolling chassis, with a partial body -- it is a parallel hybrid.

Of course it can be cool.
It can even be functional.

But mainstream manufacturer just aren't building really aerodynamic cars anymore, despite many people liking the old aerodynamically inspired cars of the past. Bugatti Atlantique, anyone ?

They weren't always more aerodynamical than current designs though ;)

Check out Dave Cloud's Dolphin! Search for it here in EM...

I Can only add a vote for the TDI in whatever VW's latest high FE version is around at the time.

However the 1.3 FIAT Multijet (as used by Vauxhall, Suzuki, Mutsubishi and loads of others) is looking like a better bet at the moment.

Hi Neil, Cool little car. Looks a bit unsafe for 70mph.
A rollbar is great -- IF YOU ARE WEARING A HELMET!

Angelus359 11-07-2010 01:50 AM

I want one...
