THink this will be beneficial (Extending kammback)
This is my previous kammback that I had. It did help but I decided to lengthen it nearly 10 inches, raise it a degree or two and also add the side panel.
Worthwhile or no? Old. http://i772.photobucket.com/albums/y...ackredone.jpeg New. I did enclose the drivers side as well. http://i772.photobucket.com/albums/y...ieceadded.jpeg Without doing a full boattail I don't think I can do much more to the car. Maybe some rear wheel covers. Any other ideas. I use the hatch all the time so I can't justify a boat tail. |
Looks nice! Don't know how much it'll help.

extend the sides all the way down to the bumper with clear plexi glass or lexan. Just like ecoTex's dad's VX

gain
The upper elongation moves the upper separation point back along with deceleration and pressure recovery. That's good.
The base pressure of the wake is however decided by the pressure at the taillights and below, which is well below that of the upper body. The low pressure below is adulterating the higher pressure up top,to compromise the performance of the existing elongatioon. The only way to really cut drag is to enclose the entire perimeter, like a plan-tapered box-cavity which, combined with the upper mods, move the entire separation point rearwards with plan taper. Something like a swing-away spare tire holder as used on Nissan SUVs,mounted to the bumper, would allow the lower portion to swing sideways for hatch operation. |

Hopefully that makes sense. |

The Lexan would be cheap 'n dirty way and would perform about equal to actually extending everything else back even with your existing extension. Motorists would know exactly what you were up to with a clear line of sight to your taillights. BamZipPow is doing this right now with his boat tail-based on a 1-wheel trailer. |

Aerohead, Thanks man. I will be getting some plastic this weekend. |
plastic
You should be in 50-mpg territory real soon!:D

PolyMetal. Dirt track racers use it for their big wings. Stiff as 5/8" ply with 1/10th the weight.
It's enameled aluminum skins on 3mm sheet plastic. http://t0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:A...G6ieBb0RXBkCVg |
