Tire wear/Weight changing

Hi all. It's nearing time to get new tires for my truck and I was considering getting some new/different lighter wheels as well with LRR tires.

So my first step was to weigh my current wheel/tire combo which weighed in at 46 lbs. According to tirerack my current tires weighed 28 lbs new.

I'm curious if anyone has any insight on how much lighter tires become as their tread wears off? Or is the amount of weight lost too little to be considered? I highly doubt my stock 15 inch alloys weigh 18 lbs. But if they do I will keep them. My tires new were 12/32 tread depth and are currently between 4 and 5/32.

Thanks in advance for everybody's insight.

I think a lot of the weight is in the steel bands. There will be a slight weight loss with tread wear but I don't think it will be much.

You should weigh your new tires and then you can find out first hand once when they're ready for replacement and you weigh them again.

I dont think its enough to worry about.
