It's weird because he used the same gas station, but not necessarily the same pump, did a 77-mile round-trip, and filled up until it clicked twice, but he waited 15 seconds before going for the second click.
I hadn't heard of doing that before.
However, he didn't do A-B-A, he did B-C-D-A-E-F-G...
He tested installing a high flow exhaust and cold air intake, SUPERCHIPS FLASHPAQ Tuner, Ferox Fuel Additives, Obdiicats, Turbonator, ecoOBD2, nitroOBD2, and the NeoSocket.
He tested the high flow exhaust and cold air intake at the same time and max tire pressure and driving slower simultaneously, so the combinations make a difference, but we don't know how much each contribute.
He also had 8 gauges displayed on his phone using Torque or something similar.
Todd said the high-flow exhaust system and cold air intake helped improve fuel efficiency by roughly 3/4 of a mile per gallon.
Installing the Super Chips performance tuner, set to the "mileage save" option, resulted in nearly two miles per gallon improvement.
Reducing driving speed from 70 mph to 63 and inflating tires to the maximum recommended pressure (50 PSI) yielded an additional 3 miles per gallon.
Todd said the only three effective performance-related modifications were the cold air intake, the high-flow exhaust system, and the programmer, but notes that simply slowing down provides the most substantial fuel savings.
He tried the Obdiicats, on his 2003 4x4 5.3L 3.73 Gear-ratio Suburban with over 319,000 miles on the original engine and transmission. Cruise control was set to 70MPH and the baseline was just over 17MPG: 0-60 of 8.32s and 16.7MPG.
NitroOBD2: 8.5s and 16.45MPG; this was the only test with a different pump at the same station.
2G Fuel Saver: 8.76s and 16.39MPG.
Stock: 8.45s and 17.07MPG.
High-flow exhaust (36.5% more CFM) and cold-air intake (
he never tested the airflow!): 8.13s and 17.74MPG.
He didn't test their filtering ability, either.
Superchips Flashpaq: 18.78MPG and Draggy failed.
22.39% MPG improvement.
50PSI and cruise control set to 60 MPH: 8.01s and 20.39MPG.
Another 12.73% improvement (37.97% total?)
He tried the Ferox in a fuel-injected generator and it made engine components orange.
The Turbonator didn't even spin when taped to the intake.
He changed Suburbans mid-stream to a 2020 with a brand-new air filter and a complete tune-up a few months before.
EcoOBD2: 7.39s with traction control and 22.38MPG.
NeoSocket (cigarette lighter light): 6.97s (traction control helped) and 23.36MPG.
Stock: 7.41s with traction control and 21.9MPG.
50 PSI and 63MPH: 7.52s with traction control and 26.23MPG.
It seems like you never know whether traction control will help, so you should disable it for testing.
I'm curious how accurate the Suburban's MPG calculation was, but not curious enough to watch the video for a third time.
