Nice to see him busting the dirty air filter myth. I wasn't expecting that one! That one gets trotted out all the time as gospel.
Regarding the auto vs. manual question: I think his argument stands when the car is in the hands of a typical driver. There aren't many manuals driving around any more, but the ones I do notice typically sound like they're being driven around constantly in 2nd gear in the city. |

I say give me a manual any day, although a dsg wouldn't be a bad choice either. Most automatics computers are programmed for power & efficiency. However if I choose my 5 speed can be dedicated to strictly economy IMO.
