Ecomodding a 2.3L fox body mustang. Project "show me the carfox"

Newbie here looking for input on ecomodding My latest project an ugly but well cared for 92 2.3 auto fox body.

Mods on the to do list

Synthetic diff oil
Overinflated tires (42) psi
Extended air dam and lower grille block off
Re worked coil firing order on the wasted spark plugs to fire on the power stroke
The car already has dual exhaust spit off just below the manifold.
Ranger header (weight)
Replace the spare and jack with a compressor & tire plugs
Scangauge or vacuume gauge.

My goal right now is to average 30mpg for my daily commute and to do so without compromising comfort.

Anyone have any 2.3 ford or general suggestions you'd like to offer up?

Five speed stick is likely the biggest single mod. Then look at the mods list at the top of the page.

That's not a mod I'm willing to do.

All my other vehicles are manuals and due to recent construction my commute has me doing WAY more clutching and shifting that I'm welcome doing after a tired hot long day wrenching on electro mechanical equipment. This little car was purchased because of its cold cold AC and slush box trans.

My goal isn't to get the best MPG possible, I would have just kept my 3/5 metro if that we're the case. No this project is to get the most MPG from this car-powertrain combination.

How familiar are you with 100+ Hypermiling / ecodriving tips & tactics for better mpg - EcoModder.com

After you get pretty comfortable, would be when I would advise actual mods. But as usual, pump tires.

Be cautious of the synthetic fluids- you might find they are better escape artists than the conventional equivalent.

The Metro would have been just about the perfect commuter. Oh well, check the list.

I'm pretty handy with the Mexican overdrive as well as other hypermiling techniques. Although this will be my first economy rodeo with a slushbox

I have already bumped up tire pressures. But I want to get a couple more fill to fills in to establish a baseline before I start on any actual mods. My first fill to fill netted 23.8 on pure gas 87octane

I don't think the motor is down for synthetic. It already has a modest rear main leak but the rear axle should be GTG.

UPDATE

I've got two numbers to share.

23.8mpg is what I got with the car as it was bought from a 17yo girl

Next I bumped tire pressure up to 42psi, cleaned the throttle body and reconnected the hot air system going to the airbox.

This got me 26mpg on my next fillup.

I just got finished servicing a stuck EGR valve. Hopefully this will put my CEL out and hopefully net me some more mpg and drivability. Ill know more in a couple days.

Sounds like things are headed in the right direction. You should start a fuel log here so we can see the progress of the car.
