Toyota E-CVT: How it works.

Just a nice visual explanation of how the Toyota E-CVT works. Simple.

One thing I've never done is get down to the insides of an auto box, so dont know if there are bits and bobs in there, easily suitable for DIY'ing the above?

It's not simple at all. Simple like a differential is simple. Figuring out how to make a simple thing is extremely difficult.

I've been wondering why legacy transmissions still exist, and why these haven't been scaled up to trucks.

Quite so!
But the concept is simple.
The how exactly it works was fuzzy in my mind. Not anymore!

That said; no need to build a Planetary Gearbox; they are widely available in all sorts of shapes and sizes:

Put 2 chains around the outside of this:

And you have your output to the wheels and input from 1 motor.
A chain around the planetary gear bit is engine input, with 2nd motor to/in the middle.

Done!
Well...except for all that motor and engine control, via a Raspberry Pi or some-such.

Yep: Grow up in a workshop and this is 'easy'.
Don't; and it's all: 'Im!-Possible!'

Raspberry Pi and DuckDuckGo in one post?

I like the shiny parts better than the primary colored ones.
