Toyota Ecodrives the New iQ

Recently I was alerted to an interesting stunt pulled by Toyota itself in order to flaunt the terrific fuel economy of the new iQ: ecodriving the car around England. The goal is to beat the mileage ratings on the car while ecodriving and hopefully achieving over 500 miles on a single tank. They want to [...]Related posts:

That's not terribly difficult to do if your definition of "tank" is based on the average size.

16 gallon tank / 500 miles = 31.25mpg average

But yeah, 70mpg is a much better target.

Hi,

Do they mention the size of the tank? If my math is correct, that's 7 imperial gallons, or 8.4 US gallons.

On my Camery sedan, if I'm doing all highway driving I can usually get between 600 and 650 miles to the tank which if my math services me right, on a 16 gallon tank (usually I only let it use about 15g (US), I'm getting about 40mpg - 43mpg. Considering my car is over 12 years old now, it's not hard to imagine that today their cars are easily averaging over 500miles to the tank.

The tough part is that they hit 17 british city centres... not exactly well known for their flowing traffic. This wasn't highway mileage or any comparison to north american roadways. Pretty well done, imo. :)

Heck I can hit 650 miles on a tank only averaging around 37mpg, now that I am hitting over 40mpg it will be much easier and possibly get to the 700mile mark...

Its not that hard auto manufacturers! And heck, yall have billions to spend now why dont make a few changes :D
