broken door handle

Someone in the neighborhood took a hammer and a flat head screwdriver to my wife's door handle and broke it in half after a couple of wacks. (solid metal handle) now the door won't open.

I plan to swap it with a door handle on the passenger's side or with one of the back door door handles. I tried going in through the door panel but the window is in the way no mater if it's rolled up or down. So how do i get it off?
