Transport Canada Vehicle Use Study

I'm back (if anyone noticed that I was gone:rolleyes:). Been routinely gettimg 60+ MPG in the VX ( I REALLY need to update my fuel log), and shooting for a sub 3.0 l/ 100km tank this summer. Have also hit a new personal best distance of 638 miles on 9.38 US gallons for 68 MPG US (81 imp mpg).

I just got a letter in the mail from Transport Canada that they want me to take part in a study for vehicle use, traffoc patterns and fuel consumption. Has anyone done/ is doing the Transport Canada Vehicle Use study for traffic patterns and fuel use? Any comments or opinions. They are asking me to pit a data logger in the VX (and 6000 other cars) to get vehicle use info. Anyone else done it? Think that they will believe the fuel economy numbers that they see?
Claims that all individual info is confidential.

I'm kind of interested in it, because at the end they can provide a detailed breakdown of fuel economy/ consumption, and even fuel used for different speeds, which would be quite cool to see for the VX. Should I throw off their whole fuel economy curve for everyone else?

Anyone else done it, or have comments?

...depends upon whether you feel *SUPPORTING* your government thru taxes is enough support or not.

...I wouldn't participate if OUR gooberment sent similar letter to me...but that's just me.

I believe that OBDII is required for the data logger

The logger is in through the 12v outlet, and GPS. It apparently asks when and how much fuel you put in, not sure if/ how they get any better fuel consumption data than tank to tank info.

The letter specifically says for the "1994 Honda Civic VX", so I'd hope at least one person there would have realized it's not obd2 if that's required.

Your excellent gains in fuel mileage might actual skew their data. They might just throw it out as an outlier or might assume that the tracker in your car is faulty. It might be worth doing though as an example for them of someone who is doing it right.

I've never heard of the program. You going to do it?

War_Wagon 07-21-2013 02:36 PM

I haven't heard of it either. Sounds like the old Neilson ratings for TV where a few 1000 people's viewing habits decided what programs stayed on the air lol. :snail:

I hadn't heard of it either until I got the letter. I don't think that I am going to.

It sounds interesting, if it was me I'd do it just to see what the results were. Who knows, maybe you'll get a tax credit or something for it? :snail:

It looks like you get entered into drawings of $1,000 or so and other prizes. If you don't have a scangauge, i'd do it. If anything it'll improve your hypermiling, as it has a really detailed metrics like % spent idling. I'm also interested to see what your report would be.
