Is it true that you can have electrical snow tires?

Hello guys, is it true that nokiantires are making new snow tires where you can handle your studded tires? I saw a video about the subject like year ago or something.

I remember something like that you can choose do you put studs outside the tires or not while you are driving by pressing one button. Have you guys heard about that or do you have any experience from similar tires?

I didn't found the video or subject from here but if you can find it you can put link here if you like. Thanks

Sounds like you want tire chains

Thanks mate. That wasn't the exact but handled the same topic. It seems that they aren't ready to launch it. Some problems in development? How ever I'm looking forward to see them in action.

I suspect you will never see that. The technical difficulties are too high to overcome - basically a second air chamber to force the studs to protrude.

Studs are for ice and chains are for deep snow. The conditions will vary I suppose each stud could be a linear motor powered by piezoelectric energy.

P-wag chains in double quantity cross sets work excellent on ice. Better still if they have the traction bar welded links.

Hmmm not a good speaking day.

Not sure why I'd ever want chains. My very front-heavy Hondas with studless Nokians have no trouble plowing through snow up to (and sometimes a little beyond) their ground clearance. Only times I've ever been stuck have been when I've physically lifted the front tires off the ground and have been sitting on my belly pan. What's the actual use-case for them?

On-topic, I'll second that these tires sound like vaporware. We're more likely to see them come about if we ever get airless tires.

Here in Reno, we get a lot of snow after a mini thaw so you have snow over a layer of ice. Not conducive to traction. If you're running winter knobbies or studded there is probably no benefit, but if you're running high pressure mostly worn out LRR, you'll have a problem going in a straight line and idiot induced stopping.
