The Tuft Test Images Thread

I've posted this before, but here's the tufted flow over the rear window of a Prius without and then with a lip spoiler:

Here's another, of the flow over the A-pillar and side window:

(Enjoy the scenery of the lovely Midwest during corn harvest season).

It's better than I expected; there appears to be some intermittent separation just along the top edge of the window, but overall the tufts point back nicely. Now I'm curious what it would look like with the mirror in place.

Very nice !

I did a quick tuft test on my car with some minor modifications.
What site is everyone using to post pictures from now since so many are charging to host images ?

The flow on your side window is superb ! I'm always surprised at the direction air takes.
On my car, one side doesn't have a mirror, yet the airflow still crawls up and over the top of the door, whereas on your car, it flows straight back. 👍

I couldn't get the gifs to display properly using the forum gallery. I have been linking to my shared google album. If you right click and open image in new tab it shows where the image is hosted from. Vman's are on giphy.

For my gifs I record a video and take a screen shot every 2 frames (on a 30 fps video). Once I have 10 screen shots I upload to an online gif maker and then download it.

Here are my tuft testing's:

Yeah, I upload JPEGs and whatnot to albums in my user control panel and then link them here. I had never made GIFs until earlier this year so I ended up using giphy; I chop the video into a 15-second cut and then choose the most representative 5-6 seconds for the GIF.

Here's the rear side window:

(Compare to the horizon, not the lower window edge which is not horizontal).

You can see that the flow bends upward, gravitating toward the (probably) lower pressure on the roof, but is fairly stable. I'm going to try and get a GoPro and external mount to get more videos of the outside, particularly the rear where the flow wraps around the D-pillar.

If the flow is upwards over the rear windows, could it be creating trailing vortices?

May i propose bringing the rear deck up with something easy to make that wont obstruct you view:

A police cruiser with a swamp cooler (for the back seat?)?

It would fail. The refractive index would make it opaque at that angle.

It would be important to compare side-to-side in case it's caused by cross-wind.

I wasn't sure who's car you were referring to with the first comment, but I had been thinking about adding a tall spoiler/fence to see what happens on the back window and will add the taller decklid to the list.
