Solar Panels for what?

I have seen some people put after market solar panels on their cars? Older cars too! What is the purpose? to power a fan inside versus air conditioning? charge a cell phone? i'm pretty confused with solar panels on non hybrid cars...


now to my MAIN QUESTION-

IS THERE A WAY TO CONNECT SOLAR PANELS TO HELP CHARGE A HYBRID BATTERY?

I have seen that hyundai did a solar roof with the sonata hybrid, so it's clearly possible

but is it possible for me to get some after market solar panels and connect them to my IONIQ's hybrid battery for a little charge boost?

I don't know how broad your knowledge base is, but times past an invaluable resource was EVTV. Jack Rikard passed a year ago and now I see the store is still there, but if there is an archive I don't see it.

I’ve been mulling over a solar-powered block heater for a long time.
I can’t believe that there’s not something available.
Consumption before reaching operating temperature is a real killer in the diesel (gasoline too, I suppose).

It doesn't have to be hard. there're other examples, but the one than comes to mind is the Ecoflow Delta Mini.

It wouldn't have to be hybrid, and you get vehicle-to-grid.

edit:
The problem with vehicular solar is the requirement for conformal panels. Thin panels that simple curve are available, but they're not necessarily the most efficient.

Once nanoscale metamaterials are available the panel shrinks to 1/3rd the size.

Well I’m not trying to be super efficient or max the battery out it’s a fast full charge. The battery size is only like 1.4 kWh. It’s fairly small. Even regen braking down a mountain fully charges it in about 2 minutes. I would just like to put some solar on the roof or my future extended rear spoiler and have it add a few extra ev bars while sitting in the sun

How does it cause a green house effect? My car is already jet black all around? And a hybrid would need waaay less electricity than an EV. Like I said, I was thinking of installing them on the rear trunk spoiler when I build that. The area will probably be 2 feet by 4 feet. I’m just wondering if there’s an easy way to attach the solar panel plugs to the hybrid battery under the passenger seat. I live in Arizona half of the year. Trust me, plenty of sun down in the desert. Obviously Oregon in winter time would barely do much
