Ultragauge : EOC issues & incorrect load
Hi guys!
Ive had my ultra gauge for quite some time in different vehicles. Ever since i moved it to my current 2003 Toyota Yaris the Engine load numbers have been way off. Cant seem to get them over 50% even when accelerating hard. Also, whenever i turn the key off to EOC, the gauge shuts down and takes forever to start again. Ive tried some different start/shut down modes with no luck. Have anyone got any advice? Thanks! |
A kill switch will fix the gauge turning off problem. I'm not sure about the load issue though.

Which version of the UG do you have? The newer ones have settings for "Power On Detect Mode" and "Power Off Detect Mode". Changing those may solve your issue. I have an older UG, and I just don't worry about it. I use the gauge to give me a repeatable estimate tank-to-tank, but use numbers from the pump and odometer as my actual mpg. |
Despite trying all the solutions on this forum, I never could get the UG to stay awake during EOC - and because it stays off for a moment after a bump start, it can stay off and completely miss a 'pulse'.
That makes it possible to drive a long way using 0.0- completely useless, even as a guide. SGII OTOH works fine, just select Hybrid mode and you're set. I'd recommend a SGe if you don't want to spend that much. I don't think engine capacity will influence the load reading, load is reported by the ECU and engine capacity is just the UG's way of establishing basic calibration. I'd start with a full reset if you haven't tried that already. |
I did reset the engine displacement and was of course forced to do some MPG corrections. Yesterday i did a complete factory reset, but no real difference when it comes to engine load etc.
Its the newer version, and I've tried all different kinds of settings on the "Power ON/OFF detect mode", without much luck. I think it might be because my ignition switch only has OFF,ACC and Start/ON. It takes a few seconds for the UG to start again, meaning it will miss out a few moments of fuel entering the engine. Also, my ABS throttle % never gets over 67% when i floor it. Weird as well, but maybe its not worth all the hassle of working this out, but simply use the gauge as a estimate. Thanks! |
Oddly enough, my UG, when used on my Malibu, goes from roughly 27%throttle, foot off pedal(varies with load) to roughly 83% throttle, with pedal resting on floor... Load seems somewhat accurate though, with it getting to 100% at less than full throttle, but not too much less... I just use my UG as an estimate to my MPG, but compare based on its indicated averages...
