Anyone know which vehicles I might look at to get a belt driven brushless motor-generator? Was GM's Eassist belt driven?

The GM system was indeed belt driven, you going hybrid with your K24?

Not necessarily, or maybe not at first. I have various ideas about 12v production. Brushed alternators aren't terribly efficient, and I can think of several ways to improve that. I want to look at GM's system and see if I could use it as a better alternator.

Cheaper than the GM version:

Ha! If you have to ask, probably better to keep quiet and just do it.

After all, what did Colin Chapman say: "De-RPM-ify and add cost". Or something like that.

E-assist uses a serpentine belt with a massive tensioner. Wants 72-115V.

If I'm only using it to generate <1000w, and typically <500w, I bet a normal belt should be fine. It will be under the same (or lower) loads as an alternator. I might buy one just to play with.

Unrelated, but thought I'd throw a picture in of my dash. Currently getting ~70mpg / 3.3l/100 in my typical 50% city 50% highway ~12 mile commute. No check engine light, lean burn works, auto-stop currently comes on sometimes so I need to tweak things a bit, engine needs to stay on in stop and go traffic.

Why? Engine off if below 20 MPH, bump start!
