Unified list of jack points

Each time that I need to work on someone else's car, I have difficulty figuring out where to put my jack.

For my 2,000 Civic (Sixth generation, 1996-2k), the front jack point is behind the bumper, a metal bar that extends down through an opening in the dust cover:

I would appreciate if others would contribute; I will edit this post to include everything.

Same on 5th gen civics as well.

Or better yet know to look for hard, unyielding, non-crumpling jack points. Because if you ever use an older VW's jacking point as an actual jacking point, you will severely bend things up if not have the damn thing come down on top of you.

I see such a list as becoming very unwieldy.

P.S. Always use jackstands or blocks of some sort if you're actually getting underneath the vehicle.

I usually just jack it up at the rear mounting bolt for the front crossmember. That's about the last place where it can rust out, even though rust is not really an issue
here.

Metros may be an exception in the rust belt. :eek:

Most rocker panels have a hard point where you jack it up to change tires, close to each end of the rocker panel.

Never jack a light duty Ranger rear axle with a floor jack in the center, you can actually bend the rear axle!

Not everyone has access to a nice lift! At least this guy is in no danger of getting crushed... quite unlike this other guy...

Once we downloaded the manual for my friend's 1990 Civic, it showed the points by the wheels and said to have a qualified professional change the oil.

I was not able to find anything useful through Google, hence this thread.

The manual for the gen 2 insight lists the usual spots by all 4 tires where you stick the emergency tire jack, then you got the rear tow hook and a spot up front.

Its kind of a six sense when working on cars where to jack em at. :)

i dont think manufacturers would have much motivation to tell you to lift anywhere beyond where their dealers will set the hoist

If you want to do anything useful you need the service manual, not the user manual.
