Used Car Feature: 2003-2008 Pontiac Vibe / Toyota Matrix (35.5 MPG)

Image: JasonUnbound In likely the largest single financial meltdown since the Great Depression, I feel inclined to beg of you to run out and buy a new Chevy to bolster the ailing auto industry. But, that’s not really what this feature is about. What got us into this mess likely won’t get us out – that [...] Related posts:

Rick hit the nail on the head with this report. Can't disagree with anything said, unless to say that the complaint about the driving position is a bit overstated, IMO. It's too much car for my commute, but the Vibe is just what the doctor ordered for hauling around my three ankle biters. I just wish I could get the sucker over 40 mpg...

I agree, the review is dead on. I also agree that the slightly odd driving position is quick to get used to.

I test drove the matrix before I bought my protege5. they are similar vehicles, but the seating and controlls interface was a big deal-breaker for the matrix. Shifter location, pedal spacing, seat... hated it. Other than that, i thought it was a good vehicle. I also dislike rear drums brakes (the salesmen tried to tell me they were better till i asked why their expensive cars use disks)

Thanks all, for the kind feedback. :)

I probably went overboard with the seating position, but I have short legs and tend to steer at the 5- and 7-o'clock positions during cruise (average recline, seat moved forward more than most, and the tilt/telescoping wheel is placed where I can rest my elbows). The elevation and pitch of the seat moves together, so finding that balance was tough.

BTW, if anyone has any suggestions for Used Vehicle Features, I'm all ears...

Really good review, Rick.

Go rent an Aveo next. I want to read about that. :P

I just saw a new Aveo5 rental today and thought the same.

From the past, I've rented probably 5 or so Aveoes (spelling, like potatoes?) -- 3 sedans and 2, 5-doors (2004-2008 models). I have some data I can post-up

Right now I have an '09 Vibe. Is it living up to its older siblings? (looks like another review -- I'll be busy!)
