Using E85 in TDi VW
Does anyone know if you can pump E85 Ethanol fuel into a diesel motor, specifically a VW Golf 1.9 TDi? I live in Orlando and would love to pump B20 or B100 into it regularly, but stations are limited. I do however have access to E85 easier and would love to use it if it is safe.
Thoughts, suggestions? Thanks. |
dunno, here is a diesel that runs ethanol,
Scania’s Ethanol Diesel-Engine, Runs On Biodiesel Too : Gas 2.0 it has more compression and bigger injectors and probably numerous other tweaks. |
Nononononono please don't do that! You'll trash your engine. Some people with old Mercedes diesels have used 85% veggie oil and 15% gasoline premixed, but this is not recommended. The TDI injection pump and seals are already sensitive to excess methanol and water from homemade biodiesel. Ethanol is a big no no.

What about MPG's?
Will your vehicle obtain better MPG's by using Biodiesel or even straight vegetable oil, rather than running on regular diesel??

Most people agree that there's not too much difference in MPG for biodiesel or petrol diesel. Biodiesel has slightly less BTUs, but has higher cetane, and additionally is a better lubricant so your engine will run quieter and smoother. Petroleum based diesel has more BTUs but lower cetane and crappy lubricity (unless you use additives, or blend biodiesel).
