"The Versa doesn't accelerate fast enough!"

Some Internet weirdo just told me she is trying to get her first car. The one she drives is technically her father's, although she once said she has been making the payments. I asked why she did not like it and she responded it accelerated too slowly. Well, according to zeroto60times.com, her car takes 9 seconds and mine requires 9.3.

Why are people so eager to get to the next red light?

I rented one and mocked it the entire time. I thought it was a decent car, although I was surprised it was only 1,800 RPM at 55 MPH. It did seem like the major result of me accelerating hard was a buzzing sound, but the Internet never lies, does it?

I could see more of the road because it was taller, but that did not seem to do any good, while I missed my Civic's ability to corner.

Oh well. People are weird!

I larf whenever someone tells me "X is too slow"... because I've spent years driving slow cars. My worst ever took about 25 second to hit 62 mph... my current one takes about 15 seconds to do the same.

I hardly ever get left behind by traffic unless I want to be.

Then there are the people who buy cars with great acceleration, then when the light goes green, sit and stare at it for a while. The Insight sure doesn't have the greatest acceleration in the world, and I don't drive it anywhere near its max, but somehow I seem to be quite a ways down the road before most other cars start moving. (Though quite often I can time the lights so that I just keep rolling through :-))

I am almost always the first one to hit the speed limit. Our major lights are a mile apart, with minor lights halfway in between (that often ruin everything!). I EoC once I hit the side lights (or what seems like the halfway mark) and roll up to the light as it is turning green, while everyone cuts me off while it is still red.

The only cars that beat me off the line are Mercedes or something like that.

The best news in this thread is that the weirdo with car problems is on the internet instead of in a relationship with you. Congratulations!

The problem with "underpowered" cars isn't that they don't accelerate fast enough, it's that they don't have enough power to overcome the driver's inattention. If you're willing to actually drive the car, they do quite well.

No, the woman I am currently seeing is 50% older and told me "You need to buy a Prius."

I felt like leaving her on the side of the road. I considered that to be a strange comment for a woman who drives a Buick Century.

As much as I like to complain, I hardly have anything negative to say about this woman, so everyone likes her. My sister calls her her "future sister-in-law."

People are weird.

Anyway, if that girl thinks her (dad's) car accelerates too slowly, how do I make her ride a bike for a week? :D

Fat Charlie 06-27-2016 10:08 AM

You can get up to top speed much more quickly on a bike than in a car...

PaleMelanesian 06-27-2016 10:34 AM

Eh, whatever. My timed 0-60 is about 25 seconds. Sure, the CAR could do it a lot faster, but I have no need to. Any car you can buy today is more than fast enough.

me and my metro 06-27-2016 12:20 PM

I had a car that did not accelerate quickly. But I solved that problem, I sold my Metro! LOL

Xist 06-27-2016 01:14 PM

The Metro had about a thirteen-second 0-60. The only slower car I know specifically was Mom's Piece of Chevy, a Corsica. It took fourteen second!

Of course, the buses and Army trucks I have driven were much slower still...
