Vibration at Idle in Drive (Automatic). Normal?

Hello all,

I've been looking at cars recently to replace the Taurus (needed a bunch of repairs last year, still needs bunch of repairs. 185k). I've driven two Daewoo-built products so far (in addition to others), and noticed that both of them (2011 Chevy Aveo, otherwise pristine, and a 2008 Suzuki Reno, which needed a little bit of work) would vibrate a bit while I was stopped in drive. If I shifted into park it would go away.

I'm not real familiar with 'econoboxes,' having owned another Taurus, a Chevy Astro, and a GMC Safari before my current Taurus. Is this a sign of a problem, or just sort of a thing with small, cheap cars? It wasn't shaking horribly or anything, but more than I'm used to for sure.

Also I welcome any comments from people who have experience with either of the two, although they're probably not the very top of my list at the moment.

All the Aveos I drove while working rental cars were a bit gruff idling in drive. Toyota Echos/Yaris are known for this too. Can't comment on the Reno though. If it's always done it, probably normal, if not then maybe motor mounts are going or it possibly needs something else serviced.

I cant tell you if this is what the problem is, but a lot of times cars will idle rough like that when the throttle body and idle air controller are gunked up.

Air controller gets full of carbon and can't being the idle down to take stress off the transmission.
