VIDEO: Earthineer DIY Electric Car
 

Hi Everyone!

Last week, I was at the Mother Earth News Fair giving a presentation on my electric motorcycle.

The folks giving a presentation on their electric car were Don and Dan Adams from Earthineer.

Theirs is a kit car - a retro fiberglass body over the top of a VW Bug chassis. It was interesting to see, since I got to take a look in person at MPaulHolmes electric bug. Some things were the same, and some were different.

One difference was that Don used a compact permanent magnet motor in his car, instead of a series wound. I don't think I have ever seen a PM motor used to drive a car before. Motorcycles, yes, cars, no! It's a heck of a nice little motor though!

I filmed the presentation Don and his son, Dan, gave on the car. (Apologies for the wiggly camera, I only had a tiny, ball-head, travel tripod with me!)

If you are familiar with the Forkenswift, my Electro-Metro, or other basic, homebuilt conversions, you'll recognize a few running themes watching this video.

Hey Ben, nice video!
Any chance of doing a dual camera and getting a frame in frame so we can see the slides as well next time?
I've been thinking more and more about building a home built from scratch electric car, our state is not quite as picky but is still picky, lucky for us there are some loop holes, like getting hobbiest plates is easy and once you have them you can make changes! my parents also have a few old vehicles in their back yard that I can hack apart and use their clear titles.

Our state is pretty loosey-goosey on three-wheeled vehicles as well!....
