Vinyl grill/bumper cover
My 2000 metro has that ridiculous bumper full of vents, looks like a home heat register. My bumper is also a bit rough looking but the basic shape and function are fine. I was thinking about having a vinyl fabric bumper cover/bra made by an upholstery shop to cover the whole bumper, but just the bumper. I the case of this car, should improve the look too. This car has a slot between bumper and hood that should provide enough cooling. Maybe others are already doing this.
Or how about that shrink-wrap plastic they seal boats with for shipping? Would that be strong enough for a couple of years? Would need to be a color other than white though. |
Somebody on this site used the clear vinyl that they use on the front of cars for a "see-thru" bra. Apparently it's like a wide roll of tape. With clear you can still use fog-lights, but with adhesive on one side it may collect dirt from the inside. Don't know about shrinkwrap.

Hi, born2pdl -
Same car, same conclusions, same fix (except I made it myself): http://ecomodder.com/forum/attachmen...7&d=1197476035 from: http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...k-bra-285.html |
I looked over your cover. Good job, and good tips. Maybe I'll have a velcro cover over the one mesh vent and see if it can breath enough with no bumper vent. And I better include a smooth/flush license plate pocket.

I added headlight covers and a grill block...then drove over 200 miles in 96 degree temps in various traffic conditions and have had no over heating troubles.
