Volkswagen Chassis
Hi does anyone know of a website I can buy an oldschool Volkswagen replica rolling chassis?

Not too long ago, there were two catalogs on the market from folks who'd bought up all the defunct air-cooled VW parts tooling, and were manufacturing and offering virtually every part 'new'. Ebay,Amazon, and Craig's List might also be sources for 'kindly-used' chassis. |
Craigslist or PicknPull. On CL in the past few days I've seen varous complete Bugs, starting at about $700 with all the bits. You could unbolt the body and part out all the stuff you don't need, somewhat offseting your costs.
I too have been pondering use of the ever-popular Bug chassis, source of various kitcar projects. My favorites among them include Porsche 356 Speedster (https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/i...g_JbaKh27ugYXw) and Porsche 718 RSK (https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/i...Bh17qGycqrOOCz), the latter to my eye one of the most beautiful cars ever. But, the Bug engine is not so hot: Aircooled, it is not efficient, but is noisy. I wish VW used similar rolling chasis for later TDI cars, or Subaru had chassis cars similarly suitable. |
How about narrow truck frames? Who sells chassis in general?

Get a copy of Vintage Truck magazine, also Classic Trucks, both are geared toward folks taking old and making it new. Classic Trucks in particular features ads from builders who sell complete chassis ready for bodies and mechanicals. You can build a whole new old truck from parts.
As to the VW, that's out there too: VW Beetle Chassis (Beetle Floor Pan), OEM VW of Mexico, Swing Axle Rear, Ball Joint Front, Pedestal Seats - Aircooled.Net Volkswagen Parts That was the first place I looked, there are no doubt plenty more owing to the evergreen popularity of the air cooled VW. Good luck in your search. |
