Volt as Macintosh?

I hesitate a little, and then share this interesting comparison:
RealClearScience - Chevy Volt Is Like Apple's Macintosh

The future is unwritten.

I would agree there are similarities. I was a mid-80's Mac buyer and I'm still an Apple fan, although now it's a phone and iPad. My friends who have Volts love them.

I think they need to lease Volts to teachers and college students for $50/month to simulate Apple marketing strategy, ;) .

Have to disagree. If anything, the Volt is much more like the original IBM PC. The Mac was a toy for artsy types - I remember one manager-type at my work who had one (when the rest of us were using PCs and Unix workstations), and spent hours making it say "Yabba dabba doo" in a Fred Flintstone voice - then for months we'd hear that echoing out of his office several times an hour, while we were trying to do real work.

Much the same is true of Apple products today: they may be "cool", but can you run CFD analysis* on them? The Volt may be expensive now, but so were the first PCs. It was cheaper to submit your batch jobs to the company mainframe and wait for them to be processed, maybe hours or days later, but it was a lot more convenient to use your PC. And the PCs got faster, and cheaper...

*OK, you probably COULD: I'm pretty sure my cheap digital camera has more memory & processing power than that '80s company mainframe.
