Volvo power pulse
Hi,
Just read that Volvo has built a similar system in S90 what I was planning to build on my A8. They call it a power pulse and here is a video that explains the system how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WuwuXyuyfEw What I dont understand is why they inject the air to exhaust side and not the inlet side? I know that it can be done better but I cannot figure the real reason why the exhaust side... |
Volvo's goal was reduction of turbo lag so they sought to spool it up with a pshhht of compressed air rather than pshhhting into the intake, which also would have required some sort of fuel enrichment and still would have some turbo lag.

Interesting, although this pre-spooling concept is not exactly new...
I've seen CryO2 being used as the high pressure fluid medium (instead of air) in some drag applications... I know, I know, mostly everyone uses CryO2 for intake cooling... but it has been used in several different ways including releasing it directly into the exhaust system, pre-turbine inlet, just like with this Volvo concept. And also even used to directly spool the turbo as with the CryoCharger... But I like the compressed air concept much better, since it's "free", and it's a sustainable system... I do wonder what the working pressure will be??? |
