Daihatsu do a range of 3 cylinders but thier hatches are lighter than the sedans, ie. Charades, Sirion, Mira, Curore.

The 106 was the first car I thought of.

The VW Lupo is also noted to be a good choice. Are you particular to Diesel or Petrol?

The Renault Clio Diesels have good FE profiles. The Toyota Aygo 1.0L is one of the most efficient gassers.

Are you concerned about CO2 emission, FE, or both?

Whenever I see these threads, it saddens me, none of the higher MPG cars are normally available in the US and if they are they have gov. interference causing them to get lower MPG.

I used to have a Fiat 600 when I lived in Georgia that always got over 60 mpg, a friend of mine still has the cute Fiat 500 that got more! I really wish I kept mine now.

Main reason wouldn't be fuel, you try to find the price of a Fiat 500 in OK shape lately. Sheesh a small fortune.

How about the good ol' Citroen AX? There were two versions with great potential for hypermiling (extremely light & good aerodynamics):

- AX 10i Ten (1992 on). 1000cc 4-cyl 50 HP gasoline TU9 with Motronic TBI, 690 kg, Cd 0.31, FA 1.77 sqm, CdA 0.549 .

- AX 14RD (1989 on). 1360cc 4-cyl 52 HP diesel TUD, 725 kg, same aerodynamics.

From
wikipedia: In 1989 a naturally aspirated diesel AX, using the 1360 cc all aluminium alloy TUD engine, managed a figure of 2.7 L/100 km (87 mpg–U.S. / 105 mpg–imp), totalling over 1,000 miles (1,609 km) from Dover to Barcelona. This was the longest ever distance travelled on 10 imp gal (45.5 L/12.0 US gal) of fuel and earned it a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the most economical production car.

Anyone willing to help me get a Citroen AX diesel in good running order over to the good OL USA?

That sounds like my dream car (for hypermiling)

Now how could I trick the gov into letting it on the road?
