WAI on MAF?

I've got a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3 with the 2.0 DOHC engine. Then engine uses a MAF sensor and I was reading through people's results with WAIs and it seems like MAF sensor engines don't like WAIs as well as IAT systems. I was reading in the focusfanatics forums, and a lot of those guys swear that CAI's helped their MPG's.

Basically, does anybody have any idea what will work best? I'll probably end up testing WAI, CAI, and stock system because the intake system on the focus makes swapping out the systems very easy, but I'm just looking for insight from members of the forum.

Neither CAI nor WAI will make a significant mpg difference on a MAF system, based on my testing and that of Darrin at metrompg.

That's disappointing :( oh well. What do you think about restricting the airflow to cause the throttle to open more for the same amount of air? It seems counter intuitive to block the air flow, but it might work. What do you think?

It might work. Try it, test it, and tell us what happens.

I am not sure blocking air would help. Generally you want more air for lower throttle input. Not higher throttle input with less air. Most computers determine injector pulse width by throttle opening, MAF/MAP input, and O2 sensor adjustment. It would likely cancel itself out, but if it does not, the computer will likely go to rich instead of lean in this instance.

The airflow restriction will act just like a more-closed throttle, using more power to pull the air past the restriction. The WAI would probably be more effective...
