Walking and Biking Have Become “Wacky” Solutions to Transportation

No one is going to question that gas prices are high or that the economy is in rough shape, but evidently some people think that doesn’t mean we have to change at all. Just was this political attack ad and see. Many Americans are already reducing their miles driven and changing the way they commute [...]

That's absolutely hilarious.

I'm sure the dogsledders are going to take offense at being lumped in with the wacky bikers and walkers as well.

Humm... Let's see if I can figure out how to attach a picture... What to do with your 3-wheeler when gas gets too expensive :-)

This ad represents many things. Most of which rub me wrong. Smug, self-serving politicians and what I call The American Mindset being the two main ones. I was just thinking this morning how being efficiency-minded is pretty much directly opposed to this American Mindset of 'whatever makes my life easier, no matter what the cost'.

On the way into work this morning, I made a turn onto a road (after stopping at the stop sign) WITH ONE FINGER.

Do I really need to steer my car with ONE finger? No. But I can, by golly, 'cause I'm an American. Don't get me wrong, I love my country, but this life of ease we're living is pretty crazy. When it comes to The American Mindset, I wish I could separate my thought process from it a little further. The problem is I've been conditioned. Maybe I need to go live in a mud hut down in Belize for a while. :p

When I watched the video, I couldn't help thinking, "Darn, I wish I could take a dogsled to work!"

Surely you saw news items of people riding horses when gas prices peaked?

Something tells me there may be a few Alaskans who DO drive a dogsled to work part of the year... At least I wouldn't be surprised.

For many - walking / biking might not be an option.
Some areas are build AGAINST this method of transportation.
Atlanta is a great example - such Urban sprawl that you "ALMOST" need a car to get where you need to go...
i say "ALMOST" because alot of people DON"T look at what is near them.
I took a map - drew 2 circles around my house - 1 mile and 2 mile distance.
Holy cow there is alot of stuff in that area - banks - food - library - resturaunts.

As in my Sig - all you have to do is LOOK around and you can take a few miles off the road.

My next project is to build my own bike trailer. : )
