NYC Dweller - Block Heating Help Sought

Hey all,

I'm wondering, what are some options for heating my block when I live in NYC, and thus have no ready source of electricity for my car to help keep up engine temps in the winter?

Solar's obviously a poor candidate, given the costs and inherent lack of power put out by most panels defined as 'portable.'

I've seen options like diesel fired ones... for $1000. Also, not an option. Besides, it'd be burning fossil fuel anyway sort of defeating the point.

Yes, I know I can insulate my engine bay a bit, which I'm thinking about doing, but I'm also interested in actively heating as well, preferably in as passive a mode as possible (thus why I mention solar - it was a consideration).

So, does anyone have any thoughts for me? *crosses fingers*
