well thats a pain...

So i ran over some glass and got a flat tyre on one of my tyres,
the painfull part is the tyre has done about 1,000miles (1600km's)
so i'm looking at this tyre sitting in my garage now with HEAPS of tread on it and i cant use it,

Thats annoying, good thing i have a spare though

I have had this happen several times to me (living in the country near a junk yard). I usually just buy a tube for that tire and make it my spare.

Arghhh, what a bummer. I've been mostly lucky. I had a nail too close to the sidewall once, so the tire was no longer safe. But I *think* I at least had 10K miles on that tire. 1K isn't fair.

Can you not tube it, or is it too damaged ?

I haven't bought new tires for quite some time except when I got myself a set of lighter wheels.

I usually use my tires until they fail. Sadly they give up when they are overinflated to save mileage but that is because they are just taken off the clunkers at the junkyard or recycled from the used tire yard at dealerships/auto shops. Saves me a lot of bucks but they just last a year so I keep an eye out for people who replace their tires and ask for the old ones. (neighbors and coworkers included)

Here are some of the tires that have bitten the dust:

Yeah, Monday the brick had a large staple go through the sidewall.
<5K miles on the tire.
$185 later......... stinking E rated tires.
Here they won't patch it on the sidewall for liability reasons.
Wish I could've just slimed it.

Go to the place that you purchased the tires and see if you can have a new tire prorated since it is new.

They generally wont pro-rate for damage since that's outside their control

I would go back but unfortunatly i relocated towns, i now live 790km's (490ish miles) away from where im living, so getting the new tyre would cost $160 worth of fuel (roughly), and no i tried 2 local tyre places, both said a tube wouldnt fix it.

I now have 155/80 r12's on the front tyres, instead of my 165/65 r12's

so at least they are a taller tyre, will be putting the same 155's on the back once my chunky 175/70 r12's finally where out (another 2,000k's or so)
