George Haller | Science Buzz

George Haller, a visiting prof at MIT, extends Ludwig Prandtl 2D steady flow theories into unsteady three dimensional flows. These papers and theories might have profound impact in advanced unsteady fluid dynamics affecting all applied industries, especially the automotive exterior designs & engine fluid flow efficiency. A new understanding on how surfaces shapes & textures of an object flows through an ever-changing fluid conditions and modifications that could maximize its flow performance and as well as its control.

Future vehicle concept shapes might have drive-by-wire computation that would deploy active flexible contours, winglets or flaps for optimum 'flight' dynamic configurations!

Reminds me of applied active contours of the out-worldly concept from BMW. The GINA concept. As it looks it probably not optimally aero-clean but the flexible skin/contour is an intriguing new tool set for future auto designers & probably, hardcore eco-modders.
